Top 5 Nintendo DS Games for the 2008 Holiday

Tag: Nintendo DS GamesBrian @ 3:29 pm

Christmas is that wonderful time of year when parents all over the world lie to their children. The lie of course is “Sorry Timmy, Santa ran out of the game you wanted this year.” The truth is that these parents never researched what games are “in” and which one’s aren’t.  So this Christmas we at the DS Zone have come up with a comprehensive must buy list for the greatest hand held system ever made… the Nintendo DS.

(All of these games are compatible with both the Nintendo DS & DSi)

5.

Chronos Trigger game for DSChrono Trigger DS

For those of you who want to relive the glory days of the SNES chrono trigger is the RPG for you. The game focused on a time traveling guy named chrono being cast into the past.  With well over 20 hours of playtime in the main story line and tons of side quests to get caught up in, this is a great choice for any RPG lover.

4.

Disgaea DS

Disgaea DS Game for NintendoYou may be noticing a trend with these games. It’s a proven fact that any game with the acronym DS after the title is indeed a Nintendo DS game. Amazed, aren’t ya!?  Well our choice for number 4 is Disgaea DS. Disgaea is an amazing tactical RPG that was first released on the Playstation 2. Tactical RPGs appeal to a very particular bunch. So this is the game for the video gamer in your life that is a serious strategist.  This isn’t an action title, so a Chess playing DS lover would be the perfect candidate!

3.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

Castlevania Order of Ecclesia game for Nintendo DSProbably one of the most beloved franchises of all time is Castlevania. I remember playing it on my NES way back in the late 80s. Castlevania has the story and action that appeals to a variety of gamers so you can feel safe buying this DS title for just about anyone who owns a Nintendo DS. C:OoE is a must own for every gamer.

2.

N+

N+ game for Nintendo DSComing to a final decision on the number 1 game was difficult. N+ almost made it but we decided to give it the number 2 slot. N+ is a highly addictive platformer that is sure to suck a couple hundred hours out of anyone who happens to come across it. It’s polished, elegant and fun. Best of all it can be enjoyed by any with a pair of eyeballs and at least 1 functioning thumb. N+ is one of the best DS games of all time.

1.

Space Invaders Extreme

Space Invaders Extreme for DSI make the lists so my own prejudices are sure to make it in here. Space Invaders is probably one of my all time favorite games so when I heard it was getting a DS port it happened: angels sang, lepricahns danced on rainbows and shortly after the seizure I was on my way to Game Stop to pick this one up. It’s the game we all remember with some well placed touch ups. With different game modes, online play and an insane amount of difficulty, this remade classic is sure to brighten anyone’s Christmas.

Introducing the Nintendo DSi

Tag: Nintendo DSBrian @ 12:33 pm

The New Nintendo DSiNintendo just LOVES to steal ideas from Apple.  And why not? Apple has produced some of the most beautiful gadgets the world has ever seen. Since the N64s multiple color choices to the sleek white design of the Wii,  Nintendo has taken many ques from apple and in my humble opinion, the world is better off because of it.

So what’s next you ask? It’s a new “i”. It’s not an iPhone or an iMac but a new i from Nintendo. For apple, adding the character before a product name has pretty much ordained it to be a huge success. This strategy is one that Nintendo has now decided to employ for the all new Nintendo DSi.

Kirby Super Ultra: pink, fat and tons of fun!

Tag: Nintendo DS Game ReviewsBrian @ 8:35 am

Kirby Super Ultra for DSNo, I’m not talking about your neighbor’s pet pig. I’m referring to that cuddly ball of floating fluff: Kirby.

Yesterday marked the release of Kirby: Super Star Ultra. It’s a total remake of the original that some Kirby fanatics may remember from the 16-bit SNES days when Donkey Kong Country was king. Though, thanks to the transitioning from SNES to N64, Kirby: Super Star was largely swept under the rug for most.

Enough history, on to the present. Kirby:SSU (that sounds like it’d be a medical game or something…) does Kirby right. It’s your classic platforming fun with all the floating, flying and enemy power stealing that makes Kirby, Kirby. You’re not going to make use of the bottom DS screen much aside from some mind-numbingly fun mini-games that up to 4 can play. Continue reading “Kirby Super Ultra: pink, fat and tons of fun!”

Mario Kart DS - The Greatest Kart Racer Ever?

Mario Kart for Nintendo DS

You may be wondering why we’ve decided to bring you a review for a game that was released in 2005. We had a long winded answer worked out but management told us they prefer we just “tell the truth.” So in the spirit of honesty… we missed this one. Yep, it went right over our heads. SO ON WITH THE REVIEW.

With any sequel the object is always simple, improve, improve, improve (except in the case of Uwe Boll films…). Obviously, we expected Mario Kart DS to be superior to Mario Kart and MK Double Dash in at least a few ways. Superior it is and in more than just a few ways.

Guitar Hero: On Tour DS Game Review

Tag: Nintendo DS Game ReviewsBrian @ 1:16 pm

Okay folks, a long awaited port of the greatest music game of all time has finally gone portable.

Guitar Hero for DSGuitar Hero: On Tour for the DS has on the outside all the makings of a great port. The touch screen is ready to handle constant hammerfication with the assistance of a pack in pick stylus while the innovative Guitar Grip appears to nicely replace the frets on the guitar remote for the console version.

On the inside the game is riddled with enough glitchyness to make a hardcore Guitar Hero veteran throw the DS across the room in frustration (because cleaning up hundreds of tiny plastic shards and buying a new DS isn’t frustrating?).

Nintendo DS Roms

Tag: Nintendo DS GamesBrian @ 9:28 am

Looking for Nintendo DS Roms? Let me tell ya something… every time you play a DS rom it makes all of us honest game players suffer.

What is a game ROM?

What is a “rom” you ask? A rom is essentially a ripped version of a game. Someone hacks the game, downloads the content and creates an “emulator” that will run the game on a computer. Then they make the rom and emulator available to the general public for mass consumption.

The more game pirating there is out there, the higher the prices for video games are going to go! Not only for DS games, but for nintendo games in general. Nintendo has to cut it’s losses somehow and it will start by raising prices.

Don’t get me wrong, Roms are great in certain circumstances. If you already own a game, having a rom is like having a backup in case your game is lost, broken or stolen. I have dozens of Roms for games that I already own for Genesis, sega cd and nintendo and nothing beats playing a good ol’ game on my computer.

Don’t steal DS games by downloading roms - unless of course, you already own the game in question.

New Super Mario Brothers

Tag: Nintendo DS Gamesadmin @ 9:46 pm

New Super Mario BrothersMario never got any rest did he? He went directly from saving Peach in Donkey Kong to battling Bowser in Nintendo’s next big smash hit Super Mario Brothers. In 1985 Super Mario Brothers was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Luckily for Mario this time he had help from his brother Luigi. On the down side he had a far tougher battle ahead of him, Bowser and the Koopas stood between Mario and the castle where Princess Peach was being held captive.

Oh… the memories….

Super Mario Brothers is back!
This year Nintendo released New Super Mario Bros., and this new release does not disappoint. The best thing about this new release is it’s a side scrolling adventure similar to the old versions that we all grew to know and love. Yet at the same time this Nintendo DS game is packed with lots of new features and takes advantage of the duel DS screen very nicely. I admit I was a fan of the 3D world found in Super Mario 64 but come on, there is something mind-numbingly fun about that side scrolling action.

What is Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite?

Tag: Nintendo DSBrian @ 8:30 pm

The Nintendo DS in White

Sure, DS sounds like some kind of horrible bowel disease but… it isn’t. The Nintendo DS is the world’s first double screened, portable hand held gaming system. The design is impeccable, with the screens placed one on top of the other. The top screen is where the action happens, the bottom screen is actually touch sensitive and can be used with a stylus. This affords some very interesting new-fangled gaming capabilities that any avid or casual gamer can appreciate.

Originally code named “Nitro” by Nintendo, the DS is the best selling next gen portable gaming device and it’s obvious why.

On March 2nd,2006 Nintendo released the DS Lite. This redesign of the Nintendo DS made the system lighter, sleeker, brighter and generally more gorgeous than ever before.

With 100+ titles and dozens of critically acclaimed ones at that, the Nintendo DS is by far the coolest hand held ever. Trust us, if the thing wasn’t awesome, we wouldn’t be wasting our time with a blog about it.

Nintendo DS is the Ish!

Tag: Nintendo DSadmin @ 3:47 pm

Not only is the Nintendo DS a great handheld gaming device but it can also be used to fan yourself off on those hot summer days. You can use it for kindling in campfires, fill for sink holes or for smacking people over the head with. If none of those uses suit your needs it remains the greatest hand held gaming system of all time.

This blog is dedicated to my love for the Nintendo DS and as such I will soon be posting pictures of my wedding to my new pink DS lite (only a gay guy would marry a blue one…)

Thanks for visiting! Drop me a comment or just read and enjoy! I hope you’ll laugh, cry or find something helpful.
